The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
South Central Garfield County in southern Utah...
* Until 530 PM MDT.
* At 234 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area...specifically Upper Harris
Wash. Between 0.75 and 1.25 inches of rain have fallen over the
headwaters of Harris Wash, and this storm continues to track
downstream. The flood wave is expected to move downstream
impacting the Cedar Wash Road and Hole in the Rock road where
Harris Wash crosses. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to
begin shortly.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
producing flash flooding.

IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of normally dry
washes, creeks and streams, backcountry roads and slot
canyons.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
southeastern portions of Escalante, Cedar Wash Road, and Hole in
the Rock Road.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry
washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
