...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS MONDAY FOR SOUTHERN NEW
MEXICO AND FAR WEST TEXAS...
.A passing upper-level trough will keep winds strong across the
region again today. Strong winds aloft will mix down to the
surface, and a surface trough to the east will result in strong
winds at the surface. The result will be strong and gusty west to
west- northwest winds, with gusts 45 to 55 mph at times. In
addition, dry conditions remain with single digit minimum relative
humidity across the lowlands, and low teens across the mountains.
This will result in an afternoon of critical fire weather
conditions today.
* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 055 Texas Fire Weather Zone
055 El Paso County, Fire Weather Zone 056 Texas Fire Weather
Zone 056 Hudspeth County, Fire Weather Zone 110 Southwest
Mountains/Gila NF/Apache NF/GLZ, Fire Weather Zone 111
Southwest Deserts and Lowlands/Las Cruces BLM/GLZ, Fire
Weather Zone 112 South Central Lowlands and Southern Rio
Grande Valley/BLM/GLZ and Fire Weather Zone 113 Capitan and
Sacramento Mountains/Lincoln NF/LNZ.
* AFFECTED AREA...Southwest and South-Central New Mexico including
Fire Weather Zones NMZ110, NMZ111, NMZ112, and NMZ113. This
includes the Lincoln and Gila National Forests. Also, Far West
Texas, including Fire Weather Zones TXZ055 and TXZ056 covering
El Paso and Hudspeth Counties.
* TIMING...Today from Noon to 9 PM MDT.
* WINDS...West 25 to 35 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Dropping to 7 to 10 percent across the
lowlands, and 13 to 17 percent across area mountains.
* EXPERIMENTAL RFTI...5 to 7 or Critical to Extreme.
* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
