At 935 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from East New Orleans to 7 miles northeast of Myrtle Grove, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Lake Catherine, Violet, Meraux, Chalmette, New Orleans, East New Orleans, Shell Beach, Poydras, and Belle Chasse. This includes the following Interstates... Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 243 and 256. Interstate 510 between mile markers 1 and 3.

If on or near areas of water, get away and move to safe shelter immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Severe thunderstorms can produce large capsizing waves, even on small bodies of water. Move into dock and seek safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
